A New Chapter for Sam’s Cause:
Since the launch of Sam’s Cause three years ago, I have been donating 100% of the funds I raise solely to the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation (JBRF ). When I called Janice and Demitri Papalos when I was only 12 and told them I wanted to set up a website to generate donations for the JBRF, they were understandably doubtful but supported me anyway. They gave me my start, and I continue to support their efforts, and will always have a great relationship with Janice and Dr. Papalos.
Going forward, I have decided to donate the proceeds from Sam’s Cause to the California Bipolar Foundation. A few things that I like about CBF – I have met other kids with bipolar disorder because of the support groups and educational opportunities CBF has sponsored. I help with the annual Mental Health Fair, which is free to the public and is the only health fair in San Diego dedicated completely to mental health. I have also been able to see firsthand the research developments that have come about because of the research grants that CBF has funded, as one of the researchers is right here in San Diego at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research. Another big reason is because my Mom, Karen, founded the California Bipolar Foundation 2 years ago with a couple of other moms with kids like me. I guess I inspired her to make a difference, too. Now it is a family endeavor and I see every day how much there is to do, what CBF is doing to help, and I want to be part of that. Even though CBF is based in California, the research they fund and programs they develop will help everyone worldwide.
One thing will never change – I will donate 100% of the money I receive from the online affiliates. I have never kept a penny, and never will! I will continue to make a difference, one click at a time!
